Ingredients
½cupbrown sugar
½cuphot water
1tspcinnamon
½tspcardamon
½tspground ginger
½tspground nutmeg
¼tspground clove
Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar and hot water. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add the cinnamon, cardamom, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, and ground clove to the saucepan
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir occasionally to ensure all the spices are well combined.
Allow the syrup to simmer for about 5 minutes to infuse the flavours together. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking or burning.
After 5 minutes, remove the saucepan from heat and let the syrup cool down.
Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any larger spice particles. This step is optional if you don't mind the texture of the spices in your syrup.
Transfer the chai syrup to a clean bottle or jar with a tight-fitting lid for storage. The chai syrup can be refrigerated for up to two weeks.
